At StockCap, our goal is simple: manufacture high-quality caps, plugs, and protective products efficiently while keeping costs as competitive as possible for our customers.

Many customers ask why certain products have minimum order quantities or why parts are packaged the way they are. The answer comes from how industrial manufacturing works and from decades of producing protective caps and plugs for manufacturers across many industries.

A Manufacturing Process Built for Efficiency

StockCap has long supplied manufacturers that buy caps and plugs in production quantities to protect threads, tubing, fittings, and finished parts during manufacturing, finishing, storage, and shipping. Our production processes, tooling, and packaging were designed around these customers to maximize productivity and keep manufacturing costs low, which helps us keep pricing competitive.

Those same principles continue to benefit customers today, whether they order thousands of parts or a single case.

How Tooling Influences Production

StockCap products are made with vinyl dip molding, injection molding, and rubber molding. Each process uses tooling that forms many parts in a single production cycle.

Several factors influence manufacturing efficiency:

  • Smaller caps and plugs allow more parts to be formed in each cycle.
  • Larger parts take up more space on the tooling, so fewer are produced per cycle.
  • Equipment requires setup time regardless of how many parts are produced.
  • Longer production runs increase machine time, labor, and operating costs.

Standard production quantities help us make the most efficient use of our equipment while maintaining consistent product quality.

Why Minimum Order Quantities Exist

Minimum order quantities are common throughout industrial manufacturing. They help offset the fixed costs of preparing equipment, setting up tooling, inspecting parts, and packaging finished products.

By manufacturing in efficient production runs, StockCap is able to:

  • Maintain competitive pricing
  • Deliver consistent quality
  • Reduce production waste
  • Keep popular sizes in stock and ready to ship
  • Support thousands of standard part numbers

Rather than raising the price of every part, standard order quantities allow these costs to be shared across a production run.

Why Products Are Packaged the Way They Are

Whenever possible, StockCap ships in standard cartons designed to:

  • Protect products during shipment
  • Maximize the number of parts per carton
  • Reduce packaging material costs
  • Improve warehouse efficiency
  • Help control freight costs

Because cap and plug sizes vary widely, larger parts require larger cartons and fewer pieces per carton than smaller parts. Standard packaging also lets us keep inventory organized, simplify shipping, and avoid unnecessary packaging costs.

What This Means When You Order

  • Stock items: Most stock items have a one case minimum order. Minimums can vary by product category, and package quantities and minimums are subject to change.
  • Online store: Stock items in the online store are sold in set package quantities, shown on each product detail page.
  • Order quantities: Because of the manufacturing process, shipments may run up to 10% over or under the quantity ordered.
  • Returns: Stock items are generally not returnable. To be considered for a return, you must first contact us to receive a Return Authorization Number from a StockCap representative. Returns are subject to a restocking charge. See our Terms & Conditions for details.
  • Custom projects: Minimums for custom parts are set case by case based on design complexity, annual volume, and part size. We can often vary length, wall thickness, and texture without tooling charges.
  • Samples: We recommend testing samples on your application before ordering. Samples are free of charge in most cases and can be requested through our Quote / Sample Request form.

Industrial Shipping Is Different Than Consumer Shipping

Many customers are familiar with consumer shipping, where single items ship in small quantities to homes. Industrial shipments work differently. They often involve larger quantities, carton-based packaging, dimensional freight pricing, and business delivery requirements. These factors affect shipping costs regardless of the value of the individual part.

Our packaging standards are designed to balance product protection, shipping efficiency, and overall cost.

Serving Both Manufacturers and Online Customers

As online ordering has grown, more customers buy smaller quantities directly from our online store. While ordering online is more convenient, the manufacturing behind every StockCap product is the same. We make every part with the same production methods that have supplied manufacturers for decades, while offering purchasing options for customers of all sizes.

Our Commitment

Our manufacturing, packaging, and order quantity standards were not created as restrictions. They developed over time to provide reliable quality, efficient production, and competitive pricing. Whether you need a standard cap or plug or a custom molded part, our team is available to help you find the best option for your application.
